Carnegie Mellon University is a center of excellence for academic and applied research on materials, in which basic and applied research groups in science, engineering and mathematics are arranged in a balanced manner, aiming to formulate new scientific principles for the development of materials. Prof. A. Malen’s group focuses on fundamental research of physical phenomena in nanostructures. More specifically related to the SPICOLOST project is the area of thermal conductivity metrology, in which Prof. A. Maven’s group is recognised as one of the world leaders.
